Thank you for your interest in writing for Bachology.
Bachology is primarily a food/kitchen blog. Our point of difference is our celebration of old fashioned food, old fashioned recipes and food that is made from the heart. We also discuss vintage kitchen ware with our trips down memory lane into retro kitchen items. You will find pieces on the blog that are not food-related. However, looking forward, food-related content is where we are heading. Our vision is to capitalise on a niche area that encompasses general interest in food, but also captures those who enjoy the trip down memory lane – older female readers who are not widely catered for in food blogging as well as those with an interest and passion in old fashioned, fresh and healthy, home cooked food.
I’m looking to fill two to three positions for columnists to write two to three articles per month. These positions are all paid per article. These are independent contractor, not employee positions. No previous, professional writing experience is required, but you must be able to write cohesive, coherent articles in fluent English that fit with Bachology’s style and content. Nor do you need to be a “chef”, or “cooking expert” bu you need to come from the perspective of home cook who loves wholesome, hearty home cooking and a touch of vintage. Our readership is wide, you are not restricted to geographic or demographic style of cooking, but if you have a specialty area, we would love to hear about it.
Although you must be able to come up with your own topics, there are a number of recipes we wish to have made, commented on and photographed which can be submitted to successful applicants to work on. You must be able to complete work to deadline. No technical knowledge of blogging is required, we would prefer your writing to be your strength. But your photography will need to be of a reasonable standard for when you photograph your work. You are not required to write only original recipes, although these are welcome, but cooking, photographing and commenting on old recipe books and recipes, as well as publishing the recipes is the kind of content we want to be publishing into the future.
To be considered for one of the available positions, you must complete the following steps. Note: I need to have all three components in hand to consider your application. All materials should be sent directly to firstname.lastname@example.org with the subject “Bachology Writer Application.”
1) A C.V. or resume detailing any previous writing experience, blogging experience, or other credentials you feel are relevant. Please include links to any blogs, websites, or social media profiles as applicable. If you have any references, please include them with this document.
2) A writing sample of at least 500 words that illustrates the individual point of view you’d bring to Bachology as well as the subject matter you’d like to cover. While this article will not be published (unless you’re extended an offer to write for Bachology), I encourage you to make it a unique and original piece of writing that’s specially tailored for Bachology’s audience.
3) A brief explanation (200 words or less) of why you want to write for Bachology.
Please send all materials by August 31st, 2015. Applicants will be notified and offers extended by September 15th , 2015.
Thank you and I can’t wait to read your applications!
